International Consultant, Gender and Health: Mission and Overview
Health and development programs and policies that employ strategic gender approaches are more likely to succeed.
In her gender and health work, Shelah seeks to empower all stakeholders in building individual, team, and organizational capacity to ensure an inclusive process that will yield the best results. She and her team collaborate with multi- and bi-lateral donors, government, non-government, and civil society organizations to ensure that programs and policies related to GBV, sexual and reproductive health, maternal health, and HIV and AIDS are developed and implemented to alleviate gender inequities and promote steps towards gender equality.
Shelah leads teams in a variety of projects addressing GBV, sexual and reproductive health, HIV and AIDS, and maternal health. In each of these projects, Shelah and her team offer expertise and education in the following areas:
Qualitative/Mixed Methods Research and Program Evaluation:
Shelah’s contributions to the body of research on gender and social norms throughout South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa are considerable. Through that work, Shelah has developed special expertise in designing and implementing strategic qualitative and mixed methods approaches to ensure that gender equality and equity are integral to programs and policies.
Projects include Save the Children , Botswana Gender-Based Violence Referral System, and the Women’s Justice and Empowerment Initiative.
Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E):
Shelah is an M&E expert specializing in system strengthening and development, process evaluation, and indicator development and testing. Shelah has worked extensively facilitating M&E collaborations with a range of stakeholders.
Projects include the United Nations/European Union Spotlight Initivative to End Violence against Women and Girls , and Online Gender and M&E Course.
Training & Capacity Building:
Shelah’s Training & Capacity Building work ensures that individuals, collaborations, and organizations are empowered with the skills and understanding to do their best work.
Projects include UNAIDS Estimates Workshop, and Online Gender and M&E course.
